Lionel Messi could be fit to face PSG in the Champions League quarter-final
second leg despite coming off injured at half-time in Barca’s 2-2 draw in
Paris yesterday.
The striker grabbed a stunning first-half opener before he was subbed off with
a hamstring problem at the break. Initial fears were that Messi could be ruled out for a number of weeks.
But Barca insist he could recover in time for the Nou Camp clash next
Wednesday. A Barcelona statement said: “The club’s medical services have revealed that
Messi’s hamstring injury will definitely rule him out of this weekend’s game
against Mallorca.
“His availability after that will depend on how the injury progresses.” Messi also confirmed the injury was less serious than first thought. He posted on Facebook: “I will return soon. Thankfully it was not so serious.”
Messi’s absence from the Mallorca game brings an end to his incredible La Liga
scoring streak. The Argentine became the first player to score against every other side in the
Spanish top flight in successive matches after netting for the 19th
consecutive league game last week.
