LeBron James proved why he is the game’s greatest player with a clutch jump-shot to lead the Miami Heat to their second consecutive NBA championship with victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game seven of the Finals.
After the epic contest of Game six, where Miami came back from seemingly certain defeat to force overtime and snatch victory to keep their championship dream alive, they became the first team in this series to win consecutive games to claim the title on their home court.
James won the Finals’ Most Valuable Player award and hit the shot that finally landed the knock-out punch to the Spurs. His 17-foot jump-shot with 27 seconds left gave the Heat a four-point lead that was to prove decisive. James finished with 37 points and 12 rebounds in the game.
To have won it with a jump-shot, a facet of his game that was considered a weakness prior to this season, was clearly a point a pride.
‘I put a lot of work into my game over the off season and to come out here and see the results happen on the floor is the ultimate,’ said James. ‘The Spurs pushed us to the limit. They are a class act, a class organization.’
Dwyane Wade added 23 points and 10 rebounds in Game seven, coming up big after struggling with injury throughout the play-offs.
‘This series took everything we had. The Spurs are an unbelievable team, this was the hardest series we ever had to play,’ he said.
