Trey Songz Receives The Recording Academy Honors

Trey Songz was honored at the New York Chapter Recording Academy Honors 2013 on Wednesday night, June 26. Songz's mother, April Tucker, was in attendance when her son was presented with an award by his manager and mentor, Kevin Liles.

Fellow RnB singer Ne-Yo saluted Songz with a cover of "Can't Be Friends", a hit single off Songz's 2010 album, "Passion, Pain & Pleasure".

"Stood amongst legends tonight. Truly grateful," Songz tweeted that night.

"It feels amazing to be so young and be honored. I have five albums out. I play all the time, but I would make music if I never got paid for it, if nobody ever listened to it," Songz said of the honor. "To be acknowledged by such an honorable academy is a blessing."

Songz wasn't the only honoree at the event. He was joined by other honorees including rocktress Melissa Etheridge, songwriters/ producers Valerie Simpson and husband Nick Ashford, Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell and "Les Miserables" creators Alain Boublil, Herbert Kretzmer, Claude-Michel Schonberg.

The annual Recording Academy Honors celebrates outstanding individuals whose work embodies excellence and integrity and who have improved the environment for the creative community.

The event benefits advocacy, education and professional development programs of The Recording Academy New York Chapter.

Congratulations Tremaine!!!
