'The Simpsons' To Kill Off Another Character Soon

Another "The Simpsons" character will soon meet his/her demise. In a conference call with reporters last week, executive producer Al Jean revealed that they're planning to kill off a character in the season ahead.

"We're actually working on a script where a character will pass away," he dished on, but refused to divulge details on which character would meet the end. "I'll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won't say who it is."

The "clue" doesn't really help narrow things down since, as most fans known, almost every member of the major voice cast ensemble has won an Emmy. They include Dan Castellaneta (who voices Homer, Grampa, Barney, Krusty and many others), Julie Kavner (Marge, Patty, Selma), Hank Azaria (Moe, Apu, Comic Book Guy, Professor Frink, Dr. Nick and more), Nancy Cartwright (Bart, Nelson, Ralphy, Todd Flanders) and Yeardley Smith (Lisa).

To The Hollywood Reporter, Jean explained the decision, "We are doing this story for the same reason we do all others -- we think it has a good emotional through line," adding that "the story will be produced this year though it may air in season 26."

Throughout its 24-year run, "The Simpsons" has killed off seven characters, namely Homer's Las Vegas wife Amber (season 16) and Ned's wife Maude Flanders (season 11).

"The Simpsons" premiered its 25th season on Sunday, September 29 with a "Homeland" parody featuring guest voice Kristen Wiig. The current season will feature a "Futurama" crossover episode and a wedding for Comic Book Guy officiated by Stan Lee.
