Cash Money Records is facing legal action for allegedly using a sample featured on a Bow Wow track without permission.
According to report,
Robert “Bobby” Poindexter of R&B group the Persuaders is suing the
hip-hop label for sampling his group’s song, ‘Love Gotta Pack Up (and
Walk Out),’ on Bow Weezy’s 2010 tune, ‘Still Ballin.’ He alleges that
neither Cash Money nor Mr. ’106 & Park’ obtained permission to use
the song.
Furthermore, Poindexter claims that when he tried to reach out to
Cash Money, they redirected him to Bow Wow’s attorney, who then pointed
him back to the label. It looks like someone was trying to pass the
buck.
Poindexter is seeking $600,000 in punitive damages, plus interest.
Attorneys for both Cash Money and Bow Wow had no comment on the matter.
This isn’t the first time Poindexter had to sued rappers for
illegally sampling his group’s songs. In April 2012, the singer-producer
slapped both Kanye West and 50 Cent with separate copyright-infringement lawsuits over unauthorized samples.
