Cardinals Gather To Elect A New Pope

Over a hundred Cardinals have attended a special Mass in Rome before they lock themselves away in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new Pope.
The election following the surprise abdication of Benedict XVI will see them secretly vote four times a day until two-thirds can agree on a candidate. There is no clear front-runner to take over as head of the 1.2 billion-strong Catholic Church. Pope Benedict, 85, stepped down last month saying he was no longer strong enough to lead the Church, which is beleaguered by a worldwide child sex abuse scandal and allegations of corruption in the Vatican.
