A man convicted of domestic violence broke out of a Spanish jail by swapping clothes with his visiting brother, police said.
The Pakistani man, who has not been named, escaped Wednesday night from
Modelo de Barcelona prison after trading places with his look-a-like
sibling.
Sources say they somehow exchanged attire shortly before the end of the
family catch-up — allowing the criminal to walk out free.
He remains on the run.
But his good-spirited brother is now languishing in the same cell after
guards spotted the switch and put him behind bars instead, reports El
Mundo.
The brother is due in court later this week. Juan Luis Escudero Perez, of the Catalonia prison workers' union CSIF, told news agency EFE the breakout was due to a lack of technology at the prison. A lack of electronic fingerprinting facilities led to the blunder, he said.
