Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is in mourning. His daughter Charlotte passed away at the age of 42 on Friday, June 28 in London after losing battle against ovarian cancer, the same disease which killed her mother, Cassandra Harris, twenty two years ago.
"On June 28 at 2 P.M. my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer," Brosnan says in a statement. "She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean."
"Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."
Charlotte and Christopher are Cassandra' children from a previous marriage. They lived with Brosnan after he married their mother in 1980 and were adopted by the 60-year-old star after their biological father died. Brosnan and Cassandra additionally have a son together, Sean.
In 1991 when Sean was eight, Cassandra, 43, died of the same disease that took her own mother away when the Aussie actress was just a teenager. Four years after her death, Brosnan landed a role in "GoldenEye" as James Bond, something that his late wife had always wanted. She herself was a Bond girl in 1981's "For Your Eyes Only".
In a cruel case of art imitating life, Brosnan played a widower who falls in love with a cancer victim in his 2012 movie "Love Is All You Need". Talking about how his own experience was reflected in the role, he said, "I've sat in rooms with doctors and awaited the outcome of examinations, for results to come back. I've opened letters with bad news in them. I know what it's like, I really do."
