Manchester United will refuse to sell Wayne Rooney, even if he hands in a transfer request. Chelsea have made the unsettled England striker their only summer target, despite having a £20million bid rejected.
Rooney, is “angry and confused” after new United boss David Moyes suggested he would play second fiddle behind Robin van Persie and chief executive Ed Woodward insisted he would not get a new contract this summer.
It was thought an official request from Rooney to leave the Theatre of Dreams would trigger his departure. But the Premier League champs will not be bullied into selling one of their prized assets.
United believe there has been a breakdown in communication and are desperately trying to resolve the situation. And Moyes is even planning ways to play his star strikers together.
Rooney is currently in Manchester receiving treatment on a hamstring injury after flying home early from United’s tour of Australia and the Far East.
