Woolwich Suspect 'Michael Adebolajo' Loses Teeth in Violent Jail Clash

Adebolajo, 28, claims he was assaulted in a bust-up when warders tried to restrain him in a high-security wing at Belmarsh prison, South East London.

Prison officers "strenuously deny any wrongdoing" after reports that several of them were hurt in the incident. Adebolajo is thought to have been rushed to the jail’s medical wing for treatment.

And last night there were fears he may try to get compensation if his assault claim is proved. Cops said they were investigating Wednesday’s fracas after it was referred to them by prison bosses. No one has been arrested.

A Met Police spokesman said: “We can confirm an allegation of assault was passed to us on July 17 by Belmarsh Prison.

The prison service would not say if staff had been suspended.

A spokesman for the Prison Officers Association said: “Our members are the ultimate professionals working at times in difficult and impossible situations. When they have to use control and restraint, they do.

Adebolajo, of Romford, Essex, is awaiting trial over the murder of Drummer Rigby, 25, who was hacked to death outside his barracks in Woolwich, South London, on May 22. Co-accused Michael Adebowale, 22, also faces court in November.
