Emily Blunt Reportedly Rejected by UNICEF for Not Being Famous Enough

British actress Emily Blunt apparently has been turned down by UNICEF because they feel that the actress is not famous enough to be their ambassador.

"The Devil Wears Prada" star was supported by the London office of the United Nations Children's Fund, but the New York executives reportedly turned down the proposal.

"UNICEF was keen to court Emily and made contact with her. She's a big name in British cinema, glamorous, and very much on the rise after winning some big accolades, so she seemed to be a perfect addition," a source told Daily Mail.

"It's a big deal to be asked, and Emily's people were keen to get her involved. But all of the celebrities in the list have to be signed off in New York and some of the senior management didn't feel she was enough of a star, so they've gone cold on her. It is very disappointing for Emily and quite embarrassing for her. More than anything, she has supported UNICEF in the past and would have loved to do more to help what she believes is a fantastic charity," the source explained.

A spokesperson for the organization confirmed that they were "in discussions" with Emily, but denied that that they rejected her. "UNICEF would love to work with Emily Blunt and hopes that there will be opportunities in the future," the spokesperson said.

The actress, who won a Golden Globe Award for her work in "Gideon's Daughter", is currently busy with her project with Tom Cruise, "Edge of Tomorrow". The sci-fi movie will hit U.S. theaters on June 6, 2014.
