GQ magazine has outfitted Kendrick Lamar with a similar honor to his self-appointed "King of New York" crown. Lamar suited up with a mic in hand covers GQ's annual "Man of the Year" issue titled, "The Next King of Rap."
Inside, the mag names Lamar "Rap's Next King," and looks at the most explosive sectors of his year long rise to rap stardom, specifically his explosive verse on Big Sean's "Control" and the Drake beef that followed.
The interview finds Lamar in the aftermath of calling Drizzy out on the record, and while the two hip hop stars crossed paths at the MTV VMAs. All was cool during the run-in, Lamar even stated that the two are "pretty cool," adding, "I mean I would be okay if we weren't."
The TDE star also mentions his appearance at the VMAs after party, where it was widely reported that J. Cole and Diddy came to blows over a disagreement about the "Control" verse. Lamar explained to the mag why he chose to go out but nothing about the reported face-to-face.
"I only go when there's a point," he said, pointing to the verse that launched a bunch of rap responses. "Usually the point is just n----s drinking, but walking through the club the week after I released the 'Control' verse? That's a point!"
