The 15-month-old girl Roona Begum underwent a surgery so as to reduce
the size of her head as earlier reported, she was suffering from the problem of hydrocephalus - a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid increases in
the brain, thus increasing the size of the brain to greater extent.
She belongs to a poor family and her father, who is a laborer with
the income of Rs 150 per day, couldn't afford the surgery. But the
donations from all over the world came as a rescue for the plight of
little girl and she underwent the surgery at Fortis Memorial Research
Institute in Delhi.
Dr. Sandeep Vaishya, one of the members of the surgery team, said,
"The surgery went perfectly, much better than expected. It's definitely a
success but it's too early to say what the quality of her future life
will be like".
Dr. Vaishya also informed that the weight of fluid in the
head of the little Roona was almost half than her body mass, which was
posing problem in her surgery as well, but by adopting two methods, the
surgery went successful.
The case of this little girl came to limelight when one of the news
tabloid highlighted her story and drew attention throughout world which
helped her get enough donations for her surgery along with famous actor
