Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, 25, who was found hanging in her apartment
on Monday night, was depressed and heartbroken over her rocky
relationship.
The last person Jiah spoke to on the night of June 3 was her boyfriend Suraj.
Police have verified that they spoke over telephone a number of times,
with the last call being made at 22.53 PM which lasted for two minutes.
Suraj reportedly told the police that they were in a happy
relationship for a year after they met on a social networking website.
Jiah, police quoted her mother Rabea Khan as saying, was depressed for
the past two months, probably due to the relationship as she didn’t have
any financial troubles.
But was failed relationship the only reason for Jiah's depression?
Director Ram Gopal Varma, who gave the Britain-born actress Nafisa
alias Jiah a Bollywood launchpad with 2007 film 'Nishabd', was in
"shock" over the news of her death.
He said she was depressed about her career, and scared about her future as she had no work the past three years. He expressed his anguish on social networking site Twitter, "The last
time I met her jiah told me that everyone around her makes her feel
like a failure".
"Inspite of being highly appreciated in Nishabd nd being a part of
hugely successful Ghazni and Houseful she had no work for the last 3
years". The director continued, "I don’t know the reason what led to this but
jiah was very depressed about her career and scared for her future".
The controversial movie 'Nishabd' required Jiah to act opposite
legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan in an unusual love story between a
18-year-old and 60-year-old. And she did it with confidence. The movie was controversial and not very well-received at the box
office, but it made the industry sit up and take notice of the then
19-year-old girl Jiah, who left a lasting impression with her act of a
free-spirited soul.
Calling her "full of life" and "high-spirited", Bollywood celebrities mourned the death of young actress Jia Khan.
Jiah's last rites will be performed today (Wednesday) as the family is waiting for her two sisters to return from London.
