Kendrick Lamar Defends Jay Z's Success

Kendrick Lamar isn't a fan of the criticism and gossip following Jay Z over the years. Speaking to Bullett magazine, the 26-year-old cited the mogul as an inspiration, commending him for his career feats, and redefining what it means to be successful in the rap game.

"I salute people like Jay Z," Lamar said.

"How many tours has he been on? How many verses has he put down? How many interviews? How many radio shows? People forget that."

Though Hov is universally lauded for his business acumen; musically, he's been controversial.

"[Detractors] They can’t fathom how a dude from the Marcy Projects is sitting next to Barack Obama," Lamar added. "So they make up all types of crazy shit and forget the facts: This n-gga dedicated every single day of his life to this, and what he has wasn’t just given to him. It’s no mistake he’s at where he’s at.

Kendric is making waves in his own right these days. 8 months after its release, the star's good kid, M.A.A.D. city debut is nearing platinum status, and May marked the launch of his GKMC world tour spanning 15 countries.
