Simon Cowell Raises $1 Million for Charity by Singing 'Power Rangers' Theme Song

Simon Cowell raised $1 million for Friends of the Israel Defense Forces by singing "Power Rangers" theme song. The music mogul was attending a fund-raising event in Beverly Hills on October 22 when the children show's creator Haim Saban told him to sing "Power Rangers" theme song in exchange for $1 million donation.

In a video obtained by TMZ, Saban can be seen saying, "Twenty years ago I got a call from England from a then very unknown Simon Cowell who wanted to do a version of Power Rangers, a disco version. And I thought that's a very stupid idea. But I'm going to sing and he's going to go base." He later passed the microphone to the former judge of "American Idol".

"Go Go Power rangers," Cowell sang the tune with his deep voice. Saban asked him to continue, but Cowell refused. "I'm not singing anymore," the soon-to-be father said. "Yes you are Simon because it's costing me a million dollars," Saban said.

Cowell, who apparently was embarrassed enough, offered $100,000 so that Saban stopped asking him to sing. Saban ended the session, announcing that Cowell would donate $250,000 instead.

In other news, Cowell recently confirmed that he and his girlfriend Lauren Silverman would welcome a baby boy. During an interview with Access Hollywood on Sunday, Cowell said, "Well it was 50/50, I wouldn't have minded either way ... but I kind of knew it was going to be a boy." He added, "The first time I saw it, it was like that big and I called him Tad because he looked like a Tadpole, I still want to call him Tad."
